A GH¢ 300,000 fund to build and equip a computer laboratory and library at Atito in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region was launched as part of the Easter activities.
The project, to be sited at the Evangelical Presbyterian Primary and Junior High School, would benefit the entire township for the advancement of education of the youth.
Launching the fund at a durbar, the Dufia (Chief), of Atito, Torgbui Xemalordzo Dedu the second, said education was so vital in the life of a community that any effort to improve and enrich it should be actively and massively supported by all.
He, therefore, urged all citizens of Atito and friends of the town to pool their resources together to ensure the early realization of the project, which would make the youth computer literate and keep them abreast with modern trends in education.
Torgbui Dedu observed that it was through selfless contributions that a number of projects such as roads, water and electricity had been provided.
He called on citizens outside to periodically visit home to help on development projects and programmes that would uplift the town and improve the lives of the people.
A special guest at the function, Osabarima Kofi Boateng, the third, Akwatiahene, praised the people for their communal spirit which was bringing progress to the town.
Nana Akwatiahene, whose grandfather was a citizen of Atito, and who described his visit as a home coming, urged the people to stand united, support their chief and together plan on how best to bring further progress and development to Atito.
Osabarima Kofi Boateng was particularly happy that the 2009 Easter fund-raising activity was in support of a computer laboratory and library project, which he described as worthy of support by all.
He appealed to the people to attach the greatest importance to the education of their children as it was the best investment they could make.
The Chairman for the occasion, Mr Yao K.G. Fiagbeto, appealed to the Member of Parliament (MP) for Anlo, Mr Clement Kofi Humado, to support the project and education in general in the town.
